Janggi (Korean Chess) is a free online game. Korean chess on a 9×10 board with chariots, screen-jumping cannons, horses and a palace — checkmate the AI general. Play instantly — no install, no waiting. It runs entirely in your browser — no download or sign-up needed.
The 9×10 chessboard has the Chu River and Han boundary in the middle. There are 16 chess pieces for each side: generals, soldiers, elephants, horses, chariots, cannons, and pawns. The differences with China chess: chess can walk out of the nine palaces, the elephant can walk the word "sun" but can cross the river, the cannon must jump a chess piece to eat, and the pawn can move horizontally.
The positions of the elephant and horse are interchangeable at the beginning (there are 4 layout options for each side). Draw (will draw face to face) judges draw rather than lose. The goal of the game is to checkmate the opponent's general.
AI uses minimax search to evaluate the situation, taking into account factors such as chess piece value, position control, and safety of generals. The chess pieces are marked in Korean, and click to highlight the legal move.
Korean Shogi online game, the rules are similar to China chess but have unique changes. The chess pieces move differently and support AI matchups.
